Master Plan & Site Improvements
Over the last 161 years, Davidson College has grown to become one of the most competitive liberal arts and sciences colleges in the nation. Over the same period, however, incremental growth had weakened the original organization of the campus. The goal of our 2000 Campus Master Plan was to help the physical form of the campus better reflect the excellence of the academic institution.
To reach this goal, we have designed all of the site improvements since the Master Plan was completed. These include an outdoor amphitheater, walls and fences around the College Union. Other site projects include Richardson Plaza, a major student gathering place, the “D” Road, a wide brick walk accommodating pedestrians and service vehicles and the site design for a new residential complex. We also completed a comprehensive Tree Maintenance Plan to preserve the major trees on campus.
