Swift Creek Middle School's auditorium is designed to have an unmistakable presence of its own while simultaneously forming a relationship with the existing building through the use of similar materials and colors. The new transparent auditorium lobby provides a public entrance to the auditorium and also to the renovated performing arts department.
The former cafetorium presented logistical challenges for events in which lunch and other school functions limited use of the space. The new auditorium provides a dedicated space for public performance and gathering enhancing the student experience. This space also offers the community at large another public meeting room. The new auditorium features 604 seats over 6,400 SF plus a 2,300 SF stage.
The Swift Creek Auditorium Addition is the recipient of a 2011 Merit Award in Architectural Excellence by the Virginia School Board Association and the 2012 Award for Best Renovation Design by the Virginia Education Facility Planners.
