To create a more welcoming and comfortable neighborhood library, BCWH worked together with Henrico County community members to transform the interiors of the Gayton Library into an updated and refreshed spaced dedicated to its patrons and Library staff. The work includes the complete interior renovation of the existing 12,672 SF branch library. The team took advantage of the existing volume within the building and transformed the space into an open and inviting interior space inviting community members of all ages to work and learn in quiet spaces around the Library.
Gayton Library redefined the standards for branch libraries within the Henrico County Library System in both environment and community standards. The Library was the first of Henrico County’s renovation projects to receive LEED Certification.
The Gayton Library renovation in 2008 was BCWH’s firm time collaborating with Boston Firm, Tappé Architects, leading to a successful strategic relationship, which brings the best, future proof library design to the communities they serve.
