Cultural Landscape Foundation Event Features Hollywood Cemetery

October 20, 2014

This weekend, October 25-26, The Cultural Landscape Foundation is sponsoring “What’s Out There Weekend Richmond.” The event will feature free, expert-led tours at more than two-dozen significant examples of designed landscapes in and around Richmond. Our very own, Peggy Van Yahres, will lead  a tour of the award winning design of Hollywood Cemetery featuring the redesign of the President’s Circle.

The Van Yahres Studio of BCWH performed a master plan update to Hollywood Cemetery as well as renovated the historic Presidents Circle, the burial place of James Monroe and John Tyler. The renovation project included more than 1,000 columbarium niches in a new granite walk leading up to and surrounding the Circle and provides more than 11,000 new options for interment that were not available previously. The renovation also restored selected monuments, fences, and curbing. Our work at the cemetery was recognized this year with the Cultural Landscape Preservation Award by Inform Magazine
