Childhood Obesity: An Epidemic, presented with the VFHY to the VSBA
This past November BCWH presented, in collaboration with the Virginia Foundation for Healthy Youth (VFHY), to the Virginia School Board Association on a hot topic that is important to us. Childhood obesity affects over 9% of children in the United States. We believe that with physical activity being encouraged in schools more actively than it is now could lower those numbers. In addition to increased physical education: in-class breaks, more nutritious school breakfast and lunches, and encouragement to participate in school sports could not only improve the health of our youth today but also positively influence students’ behavior and cognitive skills.
