Our Highest Honor: The Fitz-Gibbon Award

Virginia Society AIA

November 14, 2008

BCWH Winner of the Highest Award Bestowed by the Virginia Society AIA BCWH Architects proudly claimed the Virginia Society AIA's highest award—the T. David Fitz-Gibbon Virginia Architecture Firm Award. "The firm award," as it is more commonly known, recognizes a firm that has consistently produced distinguished architecture over a period of at least 10 years. Receiving the Fitz-Gibbon Architecture Award serves as a testament to BCWH's 22-year commitment to excellence in design, leadership and community.

BCWH was selected as the 2008 recipient based on the breadth and scope of our built work, our firm's architectural professional leadership, our culture of community service, our firm's recognition for design achievement, and the relationship of our built work to purpose, environment, user and physical context. In addition, the award recognizes the superior consistency of philosophy, approach and quality in every BCWH project. The firm has worked on a variety of award-winning projects including schools, non-profit facilities, courthouses, recreational facilities, private residences, and college and university facilities.

The firm has been recognized with awards at the local, state, national and international levels. Most recently, the firm was awarded Best New Elementary School by the Council for Educational Facilities Planners International for Colonial Trail Elementary School and the Palladio Award for the work done on the Virginia State Capitol Restoration and Expansion. With one office location, BCWH has had its office located in Downtown Richmond since its inception in 1986.

Committed to the City, the firm & its staff have been active on many local boards and other civic organizations. Over half of our full time employees are Richmond City residents and several have children in Richmond City Public Schools. As a Richmond resident and Richmond business owner, President Rob Comet and BCWH Architects remain very committed to both the City and Richmond Public Schools.

The firm principals are:

Robert E. Comet, Jr., AIA, LEEDAP
Charles W. Wray, Jr., AIA
Charles D. Piper, AIA, REFP, LEEDAP
