When you begin a civic, educational or even corporate project, you're embarking on a relationship that may cover a three- or even four-year span. You want to know that the people who are sitting in the interviews, answering your questions, will be the same ones seated across the table when it's time to transfer the warranties at a project's completion.
BCWH prides itself on living up to our promise of truly personal service.
For us, that means creating a collaborative environment that's more about client relationships than projects in our portfolio. It means fostering an atmosphere of loyalty and growth for each of our architects, interior designers and other members of our team. And it's all about staying ahead of the curve -- not just on what's happening in architecture and interiors, but the world of education as well.

A FOCUS ON EDUCATION AND COMMUNITY
At BCWH, education excites us. With every school, college, community center or courthouse we design, we learn. Of course, that makes it impossible to provide our clients with stock, off-the-shelf solutions. Instead, we take great pleasure in combining what we've learned with what you intimately know about your project's goals. We like to challenge ourselves, and our clients, to reach something even greater than either of us could have imagined.
Over the past twenty years, we've developed strengths in key areas:
- Ensuring that every space is a learning space.
- Identifying ways for a community to take full advantage of what may be their largest investments.
- Taking full advantage of natural light, and making it available in every imaginable space.
- Incorporating scalable technology into an atmosphere that puts people first.
- Maintaining the historic integrity of existing structures, designs and settings.
- Employing colors, furnishings and finishes to calm, stimulate or encourage greater concentration, depending upon the function of a space.
- Designing interiors that provide variety and impeccably suit the intended function of a space.
- Building in long-term cost efficiency and environmental sustainability, while remaining cognizant of the initial budget.
OUR CULTURE
When we founded BCWH, a few ideas were very important to us. Over the years, we've realized that the best way to adhere to those principles was to remain a mid-sized firm. Today, we can assure you -- with confidence -- that we will remain dedicated to:
- Walking the talk. When we look potential clients in the eye and talk about a commitment to service, we're not just telling you what you want to hear. At BCWH, there are no "business units" or departments, so there's no shuffling clients around as one phase of a project closes and another one begins. We say we'll be there when you need us, and we mean it.
- Getting involved. We're eager to participate in high school Career Days; education, architecture and interior design conferences; volunteering with non-profits; and even teaching the occasional high school architecture course. That's what keeps it fun.
- Stretching our creativity. We all became architects and designers because we wanted to create. Chances are, that's the same reason many of our clients are involved in the selection process, too. That gives us a great common ground for sharing ideas, innovating solutions, challenging one another and creating something wonderful.
- Being a great place to work. Our culture is based on long-term relationships -- with our clients and our staff. We bring in young architects and partner them with established project leaders, helping them learn every phase of a project right from the start. We've created a hierarchy-free model that values everyone's ideas. And we strive to maintain a fun, collaborative environment that fosters individual growth. Each year, for example, we tour recent projects by bus, allowing us all to learn from one another's experiences.
- Designing for our clients, the environment, and the future. Several of our architects are LEED certified. But what does that really mean? At BCWH, it's more than a trend. We've been employing energy-efficient and environmentally sustainable recommendations for years -- not because it helps earn a certification, but because it's the right thing to do. We understand that our buildings will be a part of your community for decades to come, so we take steps to ensure that they provide for the people who will inhabit them today, as well as future generations.
